Creating an “Amount Off Products” Discount in Shopify (Step-by-Step SOP)

This discount allows you to reduce the price of specific products or collections using either a discount code or an automatic discount.


Step 1: Open the Discounts Page

  • Log in to Shopify Admin

  • From the left sidebar, click Discounts


Step 2: Click “Create Discount”

  • Click Create discount on the top-right corner


Step 3: Choose the Discount Type

  • A popup will appear

  • Click Amount off products


Step 4: Select the Discount Method

You will see two options:

  • Discount code

    • Customers must enter a code at checkout

    • Example: SALE10

  • Automatic discount

    • Discount applies automatically at checkout

    • Enter a Title (this will be visible to customers)

👉 Choose the option based on your campaign requirement.


Step 5: Enter the Discount Code (If Applicable)

  • In the Discount code field, type your code

    • Example: SALE10

  • Or click Generate random code

(Skip this step if you selected Automatic discount)


Step 6: Set the Discount Value

In the Discount value section:

  • Choose discount type:

    • Percentage (example: 10%)

    • Fixed amount (example: ₹100)

  • Enter the discount value


Step 7: Choose What the Discount Applies To

Under Applies to, select one:

  • Specific products

  • Specific collections

Steps to add products or collections:

  1. Click Browse

  2. Select the required products or collections

  3. Click Add


Step 8: Choose Who Can Use the Discount (Eligibility)

Under Eligibility, select one:

  • All customers

  • Specific customer segments

  • Specific customers

If you choose Specific customer segments:

  1. Click Browse

  2. Select the required segments using checkboxes

  3. Click Add


Step 9: Set Minimum Purchase Requirements (Optional)

You can choose:

  • No minimum requirements, OR

  • Minimum purchase amount

    • Enter the minimum order value (example: ₹999)

  • Minimum quantity of items

    • Enter the number of items required

    • Example: Customer must buy 2 items to get the discount


Step 10: Set Discount Usage Limits (Optional)

Tick the options if required:

  • Limit number of times this discount can be used
    (Total usage across all customers)

  • Limit to one use per customer


Step 11: Discount Combinations (Optional)

Choose whether this discount can be combined with:

  • Product discounts

  • Order discounts

  • Shipping discounts

⚠️ Note:
Allowing combinations can result in a very high total discount. Use carefully.


Step 12: Set Active Dates

  • Choose the Start date and time

  • (Discount will be active only during this period)

Optional:

  • Tick Set end date

  • Select the end date and time


Step 13: Save the Discount

  • Click Save (top-right corner)


✅ Result

The discount is now active and will apply to the selected products or collections based on your settings.


Best Practices

  • Test the discount using a test order

  • Clearly communicate the offer on banners or product pages

  • Avoid overlapping discounts unless planned

  • Always set an end date for limited-time offers
